After the Stork with Nurse Kate is a Newborn Care Consulting Company that aims to guide new and returning parents through practical newborn care workshops in the community prior to delivery, as well as, private, hands-on consulting and education after delivery in the comfort of your hospital room or home.

About After the Stork...

Workshops

My workshops prepare parents for the reality of what to expect after delivery and beyond.  Parents report feeling most overwhelmed in the stages immediately after the birth experience when they are figuring out how to respond to their crying, hungry, gassy, fussy baby, while mom is still recovering and everyone is utterly exhausted.

My programs are holistic, research-based, and tailored to provide information that is precisely what you need after delivery to feel successful and confident in your newborn and personal care! Class sizes are kept small and intimate so that parents can get the most out of their hands-on learning, and have the ability to ask more questions and receive more personalized answers.

Private Consulting

I offer private 1:1 support and education after your baby arrives in the comfort of your hospital room or home. My support is most valuable immediately after delivery or in the first few weeks. Here I guide you through direct hands-on newborn care, maternal care, and parenting education in topics such as breastfeeding, pumping, supplementation, swaddling, burping, bathing, safe sleep, recovery, nipple care, and more!

About Me ...

My name is Katelyn Rea, and before I am a healthcare professional, I am a person. I have thoughts, feelings, and insecurities and know what it's like to feel overwhelmed, anxious,  and in need of guidance. I understand the excitement and fear of learning something new and wanting to feel confident in your skills and abilities.

With kindness, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach, I establish a safe and welcoming environment for my clients. As a natural healer and educator, I have many skills and qualifications that support my clients' needs.

I’ve been practicing as a Registered Nurse since 2010. With  12 years of Postpartum Nursing experience, over 1000 hands-on breastfeeding hours, multiple training courses, and years of on-the-job learning, my background has given me the confidence to know what parents and newborns need after delivery. I can easily anticipate parents' questions and concerns, and I know how to best support them. I continue to take courses and certifications to ensure that my knowledge and information are up to date with best practice standards. Most recently, I have enrolled to become a lactation consultant and am scheduled to complete my certification next year.

With a passion for teaching and helping children, I returned to school in 2014 to obtain my Bachelor of Education at the University of Toronto. I have since had the pleasure of working as a Certified Elementary School Teacher with the Peel District School Board as well. It is here that I guide and educate adolescents and collaborate with parents to achieve their learning needs. All of this has helped to advance the education I provide to my clients so that they can make informed choices for themselves and their child from infancy and beyond.

I believe that with proper education and mental health support, we can help build strong family units and healthy foundations from which children can thrive, grow, and succeed from.
